Week 38 - Drywall Ends. Catwalk Begin.

The crews have continued to make progress on the drywall - and should have it finished today.  They will begin with the mudding process next week.  The initial framework for the steel catwalk was installed.  The outriggers and stringer for the stairs will likely get installed over the next two weeks.  Below are some progress pictures of the drywall as well as the catwalk.

Week 37 - Drywall Starts Going Up

Now that we are completely roughed-in with the electrical and plumbing, the dry-walling begins.  The crews started with the ceilings and the apartment.  The walls of the main house still need to have all the UMB installed so that we get a shadow-line where the drywall meets the flooring.  Over the next two weeks the remaining drywall will be installed and finished to a level 5.  Below are initial pictures of the dry-wall - more to come over the next two weeks as it is completed.

Week 36 - Front Door

This week George visited the woodworkers, Midland Cabinet, that will be making the custom front door.  The door will be a solid core door veneered in both sides with the same redwood as the siding on the house.  Below are the architectural-drawings showing the details of the door as well as some photos of the redwood.

Week 35 - Plaster

As the exterior of the house gets finished up, one of the last remaining elements is the plaster for the lower garage and apartment.  Below are pictures of the initial work formwork as well as the coating of the first scatch-coat.  This coat needs to cure a few weeks and then the subcontractor will return to apply two more coats before finishing it up.

Week 34 - Doors Hung

Now that insulation is in, the next big step was to hang all the doors. Since the drywall will be flush with all the door frames with a small reveal around the doors, all the doors needed to be placed in their openings so that the drywall can be put up next to the door openings. We hope to see drywall going up shortly after the thanksgiving holiday.

Heath Ceramics / Tiles

After weeks of waiting, all our tiles were finally completed at Heath Ceramics and we were able to pick them up form the studio.  We were kids in a candy store.  Now we just wait to see them installed.  The last photo shows samples of the Heath tiles as well as some of the marble pieces for the bathroom floors and some shower surrounds.

Week 33 - Scaffolding Comes Down

We hit a significant milestone this week - the exterior of the house was completed and the scaffolding was taken down.  Below are a series of pictures showing the house completely netted and under scaffolding followed by the exposed exterior.

Once the scaffolding was removed we were really able to see the view from all the window.
