Week 30 - Fireplace

A few weeks ago the fireplace was delivered to the house and this week we finally unpacked it to look at the details of the surround so that we can work out the design of the whole wall, mantle, and bar.

Since most of the work that continued in the house was even more wires and piped being placed in the walls - this was our one exciting moment.

Below are pictures of the fireplace - soon enough i'll post some details of the design and its placement in the living room.

Week 29 - Roof + Wires

This may not look very exciting - but this week the crews started putting the water-proofing on the roof.  From the pictures below you can see all the tar on the main roof and the undercoating for the PV deck membrane on the main deck.  Soon enough we will be all buttoned up for the rainy season and the crews will move inside the house and start work on the interiors.

This week we also saw installation of the electrical boxes and all those miles upon miles of wires terminating in a giant fusebox.

Week 28 - Siding + Roof

Another big week at the house!  The painters have rolled in and started with refinishing the exterior siding.  First they sand down the siding to clean the surface and then the coat an oil-based finish on the siding to help protect it against weathering.  Below are some pictures of the painters working on the north wall.  The third picture shows the west wall after being refinished.

Another big step that started this week is the installation of the roofing weatherstripping and membrane.  Below is one of my favorite pictures at the site...everyone seems to be looking at everything except the flashing detail. It gave me a good laugh after a long day.  This might have to be submitted to a "caption this" contest.

Week 27 - Cranes and Windows

This was a big week at the house!  The windows were delivered a few weeks ago and while many of the smaller windows were easily placed in the window openings by the contractors - the true excitement was with the three showpieces windows.  Today we had a crane on site to lift and place the three massive window frames into place over and in between the scaffolding surrounding the site as shown in the below pictures.
