Week 7 - Dig & Expose
This week starts off with finishing the last of the basement dig. The last of the internal retaining wall goes up later this week and then we can start framing the floor so that the apartment can take shape.

Week 6 - Archeological Dig?
Nope, this is not an archeological dig in search of hidden Aztec pyramids - even though it may look like it is. Once the dig and the concrete retaining walls are in place, this will be the expanded apartment in the basement.

Week 5: Basement Expansion
This week marked the excavation of the basement under the house in order to expand the downstairs apartment. From the pictures below you can see the floor separating the apartment and the lower garage was removed and the north wall was excavated and pushed out back under the house. A concrete retaining wall was then poured. The next steps are to excavate the west wall and then replace the floor.
And a picture of the architect examining the work.

Weeks 3/4 - Concrete
Over the past two weeks new piers were drilled and poured that will support the expanded south facade of the house. We also reinforced the existing foundation with additional concrete at the garage level on Roosevelt Way. Below are progress pictures of both steps.

Dream Team Selected
Like a good play the construction of a house requires many actors - and as we get prepared to start construction on the house in the next couple weeks, we thought it would be a good idea to acknowledge all the people that have had - or will have - a hand in bringing the design to life.
