This week the framing continued and we saw the second floor take significant shape. The ceiling joists and subfloor were added along with several interior walls. Below are a series of photographs showing the the second floor, which includes the kitchen and family room on the Park Hill side and the living room and dining room on the Roosevelt Way side. The last few photos show the third floor and the rough framing for the roof deck.

Week 16 - To The Second Floor
This past week we saw the completion of the rough framing for the first floor of the main house. The contractors have also started the framing for the second floor, which includes some perimeter walls as well as installation of the structural steel supports. Soon enough we will see the second floor completed and the third floor begun. It is pretty exciting to finally see the house begin to take the overall shape of the finished product.

Week 15 - More Steel and Framing
This week we saw installation of structural steel on the second floor that will support the front entry and the external entry stairs. The first floor was also framed and the contractors will begin framing the second floor this week. Below are a few pictures of the first floor and structural steel.
And of course, some pictures of us visiting the site.
As the framing goes in, we saw one of my favorite places in the house take shape - the corner window of the guest bedroom. I am loving how the wrap around window will frame Sutro Tower up over Roosevelt Way.

Week 14 - Floor Framing
Now that the foundation work is complete, the contractors started the floor and sheer wall framing. Below are pictures of the floor framing in the family room and kitchen. The original framing had this part of the second floor stepped down and at a different level from the rest of floor. Now the whole floor will be the same level.

Week 13 - Apartment Floors and Walls
This week the concrete floors for the apartment were poured and the framing for the wood flooring between the apartment and the lower garage went into place. The framing of the exterior walls was also begun. The below pictures show the space that was excavated from the hillside (and under the existing house) to form the expanded apartment. Soon the walls will go up and the one-bedroom apartment will begin to take shape.
