Week 50 - Floors + Site Walls

With the floors installed throughout the house, the flooring installers started the finishing process.  First the floors need to be sanded then two layers of lye are applied and fished with three layers of polyurethane.  Below are some pictures of the initial sanding process.

Below are some photos of the site work beginning.  The crew started to dig out and prepare for the formwork for the font stair landing, planters along Park Hill, and retaining wall along Roosevelt Way.  Soon enough we have all the formwork up and prepared for concrete.

Week 49 - Front Door Installation

The door finally arrived!  First it needed to be stained and then installed in the rough opening. Below are pictures of the staining process, the opening before install, and the final installed door.

Week 48 - Apartment Kitchen + Laundry/Utility Room

While the crews continue with the flooring, tiles and finishes in the house, we assembled and installed the IKEA casework in the kitchen of the apartment and laundry/utility room of the main house.

Week 47 - Fireplace and Kitchen Tiles + Stairs and Catwalk

The tilers finished setting all the remaining tiles in the house.  While all the tiles came out great - we were absolutely floored by how amazing the Heath Tiles came out.....we were speechless.  Below are some photos of the tiling process as well as the finished product for the fireplace and kitchen.  At this point we thought it would be interesting to see some progress shots of the construction progress of the fireplace.  Below are also photos of the current progress of the steel stair and catwalk fabrication.

Week 46 - Catwalk, Tiles, and Floors

This week we saw the contractors get closer and closer to completing the finishes in the house.  The steel fabricators have put most of the pieces to the catwalk and internal stairs together, the tile setters have installed most of the tiles throughout the house and have started grouting, and the flooring installers moved up the second second floor.

Below is a detail photograph showing one of our favorite elements of the house - the drywall shadow-line.  The drywall ends about 1/2 of an inch above the floor with the floor extending under the drywall and a 1/4 of an inch of cork expansion joint under the reveal.  Yep - no baseboard - just a slick reveal.  Our motto - no two materials shall ever meet.

Week 45 - Floors, Tiles and Stairs

Things are progressing swiftly this week - the tile setters arrived and starting prepping all the surfaces for tile installation, the wood floor installers also arrived and started with the floors in the apartment, and the metal fabricator was on-site finishing the tread plates for the steel stairs.  Below are some pictures of the various elements for this week.
